Ivan Sancin

Ivan Sancin (born 29 July 1938 in Trieste, died 15 December 2021 in Trieste), also credited as Gianni Sancin, was a Slovenian opera singer, a bass.

Before his solo career he conducted choirs, among them the Trieste Octet. After nine years of piano studies he turned to singing and graduated from the Trieste conservatory in 1973; two years earlier he had made his Ljubljana debut as Monterone in Rigoletto. He was a member of the permanent opera ensemble of the Slovene National Theatre in Ljubljana for more than ten years.

He sang over fifty bass roles from Monteverdi to Shostakovich, including parts from Slovenian operas. He appeared at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto and Charleston and on tours across Europe and in the United States.
