Camerata Philharmonica Slovaca

The cello group and the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra dedicate this concert to the late Juraj Alexander – a wonderful person, passionate musician, and friend to many philharmonic musicians. From 1968 to 1995, he was concertmaster and soloist of the Slovak Chamber Orchestra. From 1997 to 2010, he was a member of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra's cello section. His last performance with the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra was at the Hommage à Bohdan Warchal concert in 2015.

A closer acquaintance with the players of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra will take place at the beginning of December this year, when the entire cello section will perform. Have you ever heard eight or twelve cellos playing together to form an unusual small orchestra? This unusual ensemble will present rarely performed Latin American composers in Slovakia. Danzón No. 2 by contemporary Mexican composer Arturo Márquez was written during a trip to Malinanc. He was inspired by his friends, who are experts in ballroom dancing and passionate performers of danzón. “Based on these experiences, I began to study the rhythms of danzón, its form, melodic line, and listen to old recordings of Acerino and his orchestra Danzonera.” Libertango by Argentine Astor Piazzolla captivated the world thirty years ago. Today, the composition has many forms, and a new arrangement will be created for the evening at the Slovak Philharmonic, with violins and marimba joining the cellos. Heitor Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras is a set of compositions that pay tribute to the Baroque master J. S. Bach. The most popular of the series is No. 5, for cellos and vocals, which combines Baroque music with Brazilian idioms. All of the evening's performers are members of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra.

Aria (Cantilena) – Ruth V. Corrêa

Večer (Kantiléna) – voľný preklad

Tarde uma nuvem rósea lenta e transparente.
Sobre o espaço, sonhadora e bela!
Surge no infinito a lua docemente,
Enfeitando a tarde, qual meiga donzela
Que se apresta e a linda sonhadoramente,
Em anseios d‘alma para ficar bela
Grita ao céu e a terra toda a Natureza!
Cala a passarada aos seus tristes queixumes
E reflete o mar toda a Sua riqueza…
Suave a luz da lua desperta agora
A cruel saudade que ri e chora!
Tarde uma nuvem rósea lenta e transparente
Sobre o espaço, sonhadora e bela!

Pomalý a priehľadný ružový oblak pláva,
nebeským priestorom, snivo a krásne!
Mesiac jemne stúpa do nekonečna,
Ozdobujúc noc ako nežná panna,
Čo sa skrášľuje a v duchu sníva,
o tom, že je krásna.
Príroda volá k nebu i zemi!
Vtáky stíchnu pri jej smutnom náreku
a všetko jej bohatstvo sa zrkadlí v mori…
Mesačné svetlo jemne prebúdza
krutú nostalgiu, ktorá sa smeje i plače zároveň!
Pomalý a priehľadný ružový oblak pláva,
nebeským priestorom, snivo a krásne!

Dansa (Martelo) – Manuel Bandeira

Tanec (Martelo) – voľný preklad

Irerê, môj vtáčik zo sertãa Cariri,
Irerê, môj spoločník,
Kde je gitara?
Kde je moja milá?
Kde je Maria?
Ach! Aký smutný osud speváka s gitarou,
Ach! Stratil gitaru, čo sprevádzala jeho ľúbostné spevy,
Irerêho hvízdanie je tvoj flautový spev,
tvoja flauta zo Sertãa, keď znie, ach!
Človek trpí bez toho, aby chcel! Ach!
Tvoj spev prichádza z hĺbky sertãa, ach!
Ako vánok zjemňujúci srdce, ach!
Irerê, vypusť svoj spev!
Spievaj viac!
Spievaj viac! Aby si pripomínal Cariri!
Spievaj, Cambaxirra! Spievaj, Juriti!
Spievaj, Irerê! Spievaj, spievaj, trp…
Patativa! Bem-te-vi! Maria, zobuď sa, už je deň!
Spievajte všetci, vtáčikovia zo sertãa,
Bem-te-vi… Ej! Drozd!
Lá liá liá liá liá liá, ej drozd, spevák lesa!
Liá liá liá liá…
Lá liá liá liá liá liá, ej drozd, lesa trpiteľ!
Váš spev prichádza z hĺbky sertãa
Ako vánok zjemňujúci srdce…

Irerê meu passarinho etc.
