Le Nuove Musiche
The concert was made possible thanks to the support of the Nadácia SPP and Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko.

When we think of Baroque music, we tend to mention the big names: Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Purcell, Bach, Handel… Somewhere on the margins of our interest are those who are closest to us.
The beautiful Baroque music of Johann Schimrack takes us back to the mid-17th century. It introduces us to the little-known musical culture that flourished in the towns of Spiš, where the ideas of humanism and the Reformation were fully established in the early modern period. Ján Šimrák Sr. worked as an organist and was a respected member of the town council in Spišské Podhradie. The concert program includes his German cantata spiritual concert and Latin motets. Two German motets will be performed by his contemporary Thomas Gosler, who worked in Kežmarok as a city notary, school inspector, and senator. The audience will be able to compare the musical compositions of Šimrák and Gosler with those of their most important contemporary and one of the spiritual leaders of the Baroque, Claudio Monteverdi. The concert is organized by BHS in cooperation with Gesamtkunstwerk.
