Typ večného tuláka, pútnika, zbytočného človeka sa vďaka dielam Lorda Byrona stal v 19. storočí kultovou témou. Pozornosť jej venoval aj Robert Schumann v profile Manfreda. Mieczyslaw Karłowicz bol mimoriadne talentovaným autorom a nebyť tragickej udalosti vo Vysokých Tatrách by jeho hudba výrazne profilovala tvorbu na prelome 19. a 20. storočia. Husľový koncert je jeho najslávnejšou skladbou. Najslávnejšou skladbou apolónskeho Felixa Mendelssohna Bartholdyho je zasa scénická hudba k Shakespearovej hre Sen noci svätojánskej.
