What was written about the BHS: media coverage and sources in one place

Reviews, interviews, previews and radio programmes: during the Bratislava Music Festival we collect everything published about it and record it so that it can be cited.

The Bratislava Music Festival is halfway through and its concerts are being written about – in newspapers, on culture portals, on the radio, at home and abroad. Every such text is a small piece of the festival's history. In a few years, though, nobody will be able to find it: articles move, websites disappear and programmes vanish from archives. That is why we record them right away, while they are still fresh.

One page for the whole edition

On the Media coverage / Sources page you will find everything we have recorded about the 61st edition so far: reviews, interviews, previews, news and radio programmes. The list grows every day as new coverage comes out.

Each entry gives the author, title, medium and date, and for texts in another language a note such as in Czech or in English. There is also a Copy citation button – one click puts a bibliographic reference following the STN ISO 690 standard on your clipboard, in exactly the form you would use in a seminar paper or thesis.

We do not reproduce or quote the reviews. We give the reference, and you read the text where it was published – with its author.

Who wrote and where

On the right, Which media wrote shows how many texts appeared in Hudobný život, on Opera Slovakia, on Rádio Devín or KlasikaPlus.cz. Below it are People – the authors – and Initials for news agency reports. Click a medium or a name to narrow the list; the search looks through authors, titles, media and years.

Coverage on every concert page

You will also find the coverage directly on each concert page, in the Media coverage section. Whoever watches a recording or reads a programme can see at once what the critics wrote about that evening.

Coverage and sources

The page has two parts. Media coverage is what others wrote about the festival. Sources are documents that bear witness to a concert – the main programme booklet of the edition and the daily programmes of individual concerts. For historical editions they also include monographs, catalogues and theses.

The distinction matters most for older editions. The programme booklet says what was supposed to be played, while a review often reveals what was actually performed – and the two are not always the same. If you want to go deeper, switch on I am a researcher in the left column and the concert pages will also show sources, editorial notes and the differences between the planned and the realised programme.

Not just this year

Every edition since 1965 has the same page. For older editions we keep adding reviews from the press of the time and from Hudobný život, which we are gradually tracking down in digitised archives.

Missing something?

If you have written about the BHS, or have come across coverage that is missing from the list, write to us at streamteam@filharmonia.sk. We will add it – citation included.
