Il Pomo d’Oro
Il Pomo d'Oro was founded in 2012 and, within a few years, established itself as one of the leading ensembles specialising in historically informed performance. It has an extensive concert programme across the globe and has released more than forty recordings, many of which have won international awards.
The ensemble is a sought-after partner for singers – both in recital programmes and in full-length operas, which it records and performs at the world's most prestigious theatres. Its recent productions include Handel's Theodora, for which a new vocal ensemble, the Il Pomo d'Oro Choir, was formed; the concert recording won the BBC Music Magazine Choral Award in 2023. The recording of Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder with Joyce DiDonato was nominated for a Grammy.
Under the baton of Francesco Corti, the ensemble has performed Handel's operas Ariodante, Tolomeo, Berenice and Alcina and the oratorio Jephtha. With mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, it undertook the 'Eden' project tour, and with countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński, it presented 'Beyond', a programme of rarely performed early music.
In the field of instrumental music, the ensemble focuses on projects with chief conductor Maxim Emelyanychev and principal guest conductor and harpsichordist Francesco Corti. Concertmaster Zefira Valova both leads the orchestra and performs as a soloist.
In 2023, Il Pomo d'Oro embarked on its largest recording project to date – a complete recording of Mozart's symphonies conducted by Maxim Emelyanychev for the French label Aparté. Each volume includes one instrumental concerto as a bonus track.
