The Flautiada association is dedicated to activities related to raising awareness of the transverse flute. Two prominent figures in Slovak flute playing, Marta Braunsteinerová and Ivica Gabrišová, were behind the establishment of the association. The association is the main organizer of the Flautiada International Competition, which has been held in Slovakia every two years since 2009. It regularly organizes concerts, master classes, and educational activities for flutists under the guidance of renowned domestic and foreign artists.
A sonata is not just a sequence of themes, but a kind of “musical story”. In its basic form, it consists of three parts–exposition, development, and recapitulation. First, the main musical themes are introduced, usually contrasting and presented in different keys. Then comes their development – the composer transforms them, allowing them to enter into a dialogue with each other, sometimes even to the point of conflict, in order to finally bring about a resolution and a return to the original ideas in a new, reconciled form. The concert offers a unique opportunity to observe the contrasts in the development of the sonata – from the time when its form was still crystallizing in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, through the lyrical depth of Franz Schubert and the French esprit of Francis Poulance, to the Slovak contribution of Pavel Krška. Together, they show that the sonata genre was able to adapt to new aesthetic and cultural conditions and still appeal with its inner drama.
After many years, the renowned Austrian teacher and flutist Michael Martin Kofler will once again appear on our stage. He has been playing as principal flutist with the Munich Philharmonic for an incredible forty years. He was invited to join the orchestra by Sergiu Celibidache in 1987, as he excelled in the same position in the Gustav Mahler Youth Symphony Orchestra.
