Chamber Concert
Sunday's concerts at the BHS pay tribute to Vladimír Godár, who celebrates his seventieth birthday this year – perhaps the most important figure of the Slovak compositional scene and long-standing chairman of the BHS Festival Committee. The first part of the chamber concert is devoted to his music. The evocative Sonata in Memory of Viktor Shklovsky of 1985 is dedicated to the memory of the scholar, writer and leading representative of Russian Formalism, whose literary work has occupied Godár throughout his life. The piece ranks among the most important works of modern Slovak chamber music. The Sequence for Violin and Piano was written in 1987 and is marked by deep expressivity and a strong emotional charge. The programme of this festival recital, performed by three legendary artists, is completed by Antonín Dvořák's popular Piano Trio “Dumky” of 1891, in which melancholy slow passages alternate with fast, rhythmic dances.
