Antonín Dvořák enjoyed unprecedented success during his stay in the United States. In addition to significant symphonic works, he also devoted himself to smaller compositions, driven by his longing for home. The charming Humoresques are not often heard in concert halls as a whole. Throughout his productive life, Leoš Janáček wandered along an “overgrown path” toward uncovering the essence of music and human musicality. For decades, Johannes Brahms longed to compose a post-Beethoven symphony. Even his first numbered opus indicates a fondness for approaching music as a whole in the spirit of a symphony.
