From the Works Of Jubilee Composers Ľubica Čekovská and Sylvie Bodorová / Double Portrait

This year's festival comes with a new project dedicated to celebrated artists connected with Slovakia. The opening concert of this format belongs to two exceptional women, renowned authors – currently our most sought-after composer Ľubica Čekovská and Czech composer Sylvia Bodorová, who claims Czechoslovak roots, having spent part of her childhood in Slovakia. Sunday afternoon will bring a colorful mosaic of works for solo instruments and chamber ensembles, revealing the diversity of their rich oeuvre. The performers on stage will be artists with whom both composers have previously collaborated.

Autumn Songs (John Gracen Brown)

Jesenné piesne

The low
passing clouds
do not
press down
upon the soul
but join
it
in its
autumn songs…
as it reaches
over the land

Nízko
plynúce oblaky
nie
netlačia
na dušu,
ale pridávajú
sa
k nej
v jesenných piesňach…
keď sa rozprestierajú
ponad krajinu

A Sonnet of the Moon (Charles Best)

Sonet o mesiaci

Look how the pale queen of the silent night
Doth cause the ocean to attend upon her,
And he, as long as she is in his sight,
With her full tide is ready her to honor.
But when the silver waggon of the moon
Is mounted up so high he cannot follow,
The sea calls home his crystal waves to moan,
And with low ebb doth manifest his sorrow.
So you that are the sovereign of my heart
Have all my joys attending on your will;
My joy slow ebbing when you do depart,
When you return their tide my heart doth fill.
So as you come and as you do depart,
Joy sebb and flow within my tender heart.

Hľaď, ako bledá kráľovná tichej noci
núti oceán, aby jej slúžil verne,
a on, kým má ju v svojom zraku moci, plným prílivom ju
ctí tak pokorne.
Keď však strieborný mesiaca voz
vznesie tak vysoko, že nedosiahne naň, more privolá
krištáľové vlny späť,
by nízkym odlivom prejavilo žiaľ.
Tak ty, vládkyňa srdca môjho,
od ktorej vôle závisia všetky moje radosti,
ktoré jak odliv opúšťajú ma, keď tu nie si,
a keď sa vrátiš, sťa príliv mi srdce zalejú.
Tak ako prichádzaš a odchádzaš,
radosť v mojom nežnom srdci prúdu tu i tam.

Dance (John Gracen Brown)

Tanec

Come one –
Come all,
Dance
Within the woods.
Dance and dance
As shades dance
And spirits
Od not so long ago
Dance, Dance –
Move gently
As does the wind.
Why the spirit
Is in the breeze.
Dance, dance
And dance –
Gently now
As does
The breeze
Among young leaves
Dance, dance
And dance.
Movements in the wind,
In the sub-flecked shadows
And in the dancing feet.
O dance and dance.
Dance

Poďte jeden –
poďte všetci,
Tancujte
v lesoch.
Tancujte a tancujte
ako tancujú tiene
a duchovia
z nedávnych čias
Tancujte, tancujte –
pohybujte sa jemne
tak ako vietor.
Veď duch
je vo vánku.
Tancujte, tancujte
a tancujte –
Teraz jemne
ako vánok
v mladých listoch
Tancujte, tancujte
a tancujte.
Pohyby vo vetre,
vjemne škvrnitých tieňoch
A v tancujúcich nohách.
Ó tancujte a tancujte.
Tancujte

The Dying Day (John Gracen Brown)

Deň smrti

The dying day
Spreads over the soul
And draws the body
Towards some sleep

Deň smrti
rozprestrel sa vôkol duše
a ťahá telo
k spánku

The Storm Wind (John Gracen Brown)

Vietor pred búrkou

The wind blows
and blows –
and sings within.
I rejoice
in this
as it comes
over the hill
and races
across the field –
and on to wrestle
in the forest below.

Vietor fúka
a fúka –
a v sebe spieva.
Radujem sa
z toho,
keď prichádza
ponad kopec
a letí
skrz pole –
a ďalej sa ide predierať
lesom pod nami.

At Day-Close in November (Thomas Hardy)

Pri súmraku v novembri

The ten hours’ light is abating,
And a late bird flies across,
Where the pines, like waltzers waiting,
Give their black heads a toss.
Beech leaves, that yellow the noon-time,
Float past like specks in the eye;
I set every tree in my June time,
And now they obscure the sky.
And the children who ramble through here
Conceive that there never has been
A time when no tall trees grew here,
A time when none will be seen.

Desaťhodinové svetlo slabne,
A nočný vták prelietava,
ta kde borovice, jak na valčík čakajúci, čiernymi hlavami
trepocú.
Bukové listy, čo rozžiaria poludnie,
plávajú okolo sťa škvrny v oku;
každý strom som zasadil počas môjho júna, a teraz mi
prekrývajú oblohu.
A deti, čo sa tu túlajú,
Si myslia, že nikdy nebolo čias,
Kedy tu nerástli vysoké stromy,
Čias, keď sa už žiadne neuvidia.
