61st Bratislava Music Festival Opening Concert
We will make Mozart's piano concerto available later for only seven days. We will let you know in advance.
The well-known and frequently performed Concert Overture in E-flat major by J. L. Bella, conducted by the celebrated Australian conductor Simone Young, will open the concert marathon of the 61st BHS. W. A. Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major was written in Vienna in the winter months of 1785, during one of the composer's most prolific periods. It will be performed by one of the most distinctive pianists of today. Mao Fujita appears with the world's leading orchestras and records exclusively for Sony Classical, for which he has recorded, among other things, Mozart's complete piano sonatas. The year 2026 marks a significant milestone, the 270th anniversary of the birth of the genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose music we will celebrate at this opening concert and at others during the festival.
Gustav Mahler wrote his Symphony No. 1 in D major, subtitled Titan (after the novel of the same name by Jean Paul), between 1884 and 1888. At that time he was working as a young conductor at various German opera houses, and he finally completed the symphony in Leipzig in 1888. In the autumn of that year Mahler accepted the prestigious post of director of the Royal Hungarian Opera in Budapest, taking the finished score with him, and it was there, under his baton, that the work received its celebrated premiere in November 1889. Today this monumental opus is among the best-known and most frequently performed works of late Romantic symphonic music.
