Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Who is a child prodigy? What makes a genius, and what does perfect pitch mean? The family concert Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart takes young and grown-up listeners alike through the life of one of the greatest composers in the history of music – from the boy who wrote his first pieces at the age of five, through his journeys across the courts of Europe, where he and his sister Nannerl performed as “child wonders”, to the crowning works of the mature master. The musical storytelling is led by presenter Martin Vanek, with the Slovak Chamber Orchestra conducted by Ewald Danel.
The programme presents Mozart's music in all its variety – from the famous Eine kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music) through the charming Minuet from the little notebook of pieces for his sister Nannerl and the variations on the well-known tune “Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman”, to the Violin Concerto No. 2. The solo parts are performed by young artists – pianists Daniela Chmúrová and Mária Chmúrová and violinist Naoto Šereš; a scene from the children's opera Bastien und Bastienne is brought to life by singers Viktória Oravec Ballánová and Pavol Oravec, and the closing Lacrimosa from the Requiem is heightened by dance from the Momentum Dance team. In a playful and vivid way, the concert shows children why Mozart's music continues to enchant the whole world.
