Jenkins / Mozart / Warlock
Karl Jenkins comes from Wales, UK and is one of the most streamlined music writers today. He made his mark on the general public with his internationally successful project Adiemus. The three-movement Concerto Grosso entitled Palladio was written in 1995 in a neo-Baroque style. The first movement, Allegretto, was made famous by its use in an advertisement for De Beers diamonds. The two Mozart concertante works for violin and orchestra date from the same period, when the young composer was based in Salzburg, but the Violin Concerto in G major gained greater popularity for its melodic freshness and technical elegance. Another British composer, Peter Warlock, was from London, where he died tragically. His best-known work, the Capriol Suite of 1926, has six movements and is compositionally based on French Renaissance dances.
