Dear friends, we offer you a recording from the Concert Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic. This was truly no ordinary concert – the program featured three remarkable works that are rarely heard in concert halls. The Slovak Philharmonic and its dramaturge deserve recognition for their courage in presenting a repertoire that goes beyond the usual program conventions. Katarína Paľová gave a confident and flawless performance, combining virtuosity with deep musicality. The orchestra, conducted by Marián Lejava, achieved excellent ensemble playing with her. The bonus of the evening was Arthur Honegger's expressive Third Symphony – a masterpiece responding to the horrors of war, which was heard in Bratislava after a very long time. Enjoy watching!
It is evident that conductor Marián Lejava is not content with the standard philharmonic repertoire. Ivan Parík's outstanding Musica pastoralis is one of Slovakia's exportable orchestral works and deserves to be performed outside of specialized festivals. Composer and pianist Ján Zimmer devoted increased attention to the piano, as evidenced, among other things, by seven piano concertos written in the spirit of 20th-century classical music. Thanks to Marián Lejava, Arthur Honegger's expressive Third Symphony will be heard in Bratislava after a very long time – a magnificent work oscillating between tragic drama, deep contemplation, and bitter sarcasm.
