Opening Concert of the 60th Bratislava Music Festival
The opening concert of the jubilee edition of BMF is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. It has become a tradition that the BHS opens with a work by a Slovak composer. This time, it will be a composition commissioned by Peter Breiner, inspired by the song We'll Meet Again, which reflects the thematic intent of the concert. Joseph Haydn did not respond to any specific war conflict with his Symphony No. 100; on the contrary, he wrote it crowned with success and new commissions from London concert management. In this magnificent symphony, Haydn plays with musical “war” instruments and spectacular passages entrusted to percussion instruments. The Slovak Philharmonic opens the 60th edition of the BHS under the baton of the versatile British musician Wayne Marshall, a renowned expert primarily in the interpretation of 20th-century music.
