Dohnányi
From his native Pressburg, Ernő von Dohnányi moved to America in 1925–1927 after studying and working in Budapest for many years. The chief conductor of the New York State Orchestra developed friendships here, as evidenced by the dedication of his Second Violin Concerto to the American violinist Frances Magnes, premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1951. The work was written during Dohnányi's residency at the University of Florida in Tallahassee, where the composer had taken refuge after being repeatedly and wrongly accused of sympathising with fascism. The well-known Slovak violinist Milan Paľa will present a more traditional violin work to the Bratislava audience this time.
