Anna Štrbová has been involved in music since she was six years old. At the age of ten she became a laureate of the national competition Zahrajže mi píšťalôčka (*Play me a Little Pipe*). At the age of twelve she started playing the oboe under the guidance of Michaela Šeligová and Ľudmila Zemanová, and three years later she was already a laureate of the Musical Festival of Ján Cikker competition in Banská Bystrica. Since 2012 she has been studying at the Conservatory in Žilina (Milada Hrianková). During that time she participated in several competitions as a soloist and member of chamber ensembles. In 2012 and 2014 she won 1st place at the national Slovak Conservatory Students Competition in the woodwind instruments category.
She continued her studies in Switzerland at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano and at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne in the classes of eminent oboe teachers Fabien Thouand, Jean-Louis Capezzali, Vincent Gay-Balmaz and Clément Noël. She has won several prizes at international competitions: 2nd prize at the Concorso Internazionale di Giuseppe Ferlendis (2019), 2nd prize at the Chieri International Competition (2017 and 2019), and has also been selected for the prestigious competitions The Muri Competition 2019 (semi-finals) and Concours de Genève 2021. During her studies, she received scholarships from the prestigious music organizations Rahn Kulturfonds, Stiftung Lyra, Stiftung di Dr. Valentin Malamoud as well as the TalenThesis prize, which is awarded to the best bachelors of the Canton of Ticino. During her musical career she has performed as soloist under the batons of Giovanni Antonini, Arthur Tamayo, Misha Katz, Theodore Kuchar and František Maciek with Ensemble '900 Lugano, with the Orchestra del Conservatorio della svizzera italiana and with the State Chamber Orchestra in Žilina.
Anna Štrbová is also an active orchestral player. Since 2019 she has held the position of 1st oboist in the Schweizer JugendSinfonie Orchester and during the 2020/2021 season she has been awarded the position of academician in the Musikkollegium Winterthur as well as in the Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn. She is a regular guest in orchestras such as Teatro alla Scala, Opernhaus Zurich, Teatro La Fenice, Argovia Philharmonic, Cameristi della Scala, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne. As a player in the orchestra, she has collaborated with world renowned conductors Riccardo Chailly, Zubin Mehta, Gianandrea Noseda, Heinz Holliger, Howard Griffiths, Simone Young, Markus Poschner, Vladimir Verbitsky, Xian Zhang, Alexander Lonquich, Marc Kissóczy, Rune Bergmann, Mario Venzago and others.
Anna Štrbová is currently a player in one of Europe's oldest orchestras, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, where she holds the position of solo oboist.
Hummel / Vaughan Williams / Beethoven
Oboe is a woodwind instrument with an unmistakable sound, whose development was completed with the introduction of Theobald Böhm's key system in 1844. During the Baroque and Classicism, it seconded the violin due to its soprano position, but there are also solo compositions for this instrument. Johann Nepomuk Hummel, a piano virtuoso, composer and native of Pressburg, worked on a piece for oboe during his time in Weimar. It combines strict variations with free fantasy sections. The abstract and fairy-tale atmosphere will certainly be evoked by the concert of Ralph Vaughan Williams, whose London premiere was canceled in 1944 due to bombing by the Germans.
The talented young Slovak oboist Anna Štrbová, who has been studying in Switzerland since 2015 and, despite her young age, has extensive concert experience, will perform alongside chief conductor Daniel Raiskin.
