Weber / Beethoven / Bartholdy
Today's concert features three students of the Bratislava Conservatory, who are taking part in the string section of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, and who will have their premiere orchestral practice with our ensemble as part of the cooperation agreement between the two institutions. The students of the Conservatory have long been prepared for this demanding work by prof. Jozef Bobko.
Carl Maria von Weber was, along with Franz Schubert, the key to the poetics of 19th century music. From the first bars, the overture to the singspiel The Sorcerer hints at the new sonic realities that were to become relevant in a short time. The first two piano concertos of Ludwig van Beethoven still bear the stamp of Mozart's reforms. They are, however, healthily ambitious and clearly aim at the symphonic ideal of the concerto. The Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was a cosmopolitan composer and liked to respond to foreign inspirations. From his travels in Great Britain he brought back to Germany old Scottish tunes and reflections on the rugged Nordic countryside.
