Lectures and training: Videostreaming

In the school year 2023/2024 Slovak Philharmonic and the StreamTeam team are teaching the subject Videostreaming. In cooperation with FTF VŠMU four students of Sound and Editing Studio and in cooperation with Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences of Comenius University we are expecting two students of Institute of Mediamatics.

Slovak Philharmonic and StreamTeam Team in collaboration with Department of Mediamatics and Cultural Heritage in 2011–2017 has provided the education in accordance with the contract between the Slovak Philharmonic and the Faculty of Humanities, University of Žilina. What we offer:

Subject: Videostreaming (for foreign students of Erasmus programme is the subject Videostreaming part of the Soundart subject)

Learning outcomes: To provide students with the prerequisites for mastering the basic functions of a cumulative function – sound designer / editor / cameraman to record a symphonic concert in collaboration with the video director of the recording. The student is able to assemble the recording chain (audio and video), use it, create a record, finalize the final product in the form of audio and audio-video recording in a variety of coding and of different quality for the needs of the real time streaming or for the on-demand archive of concerts.

Course contents:

• Working with a robotic camera – structure, wiring, proper placement within the orchestra, control, adjustment, zooming, using presets
• Video mixing desk – cameras, remote control of 5 pcs robotic cameras, presets, various types of cuts
• Editing – types of cuts, details, units, orchestra sections, soloists, conductors
• Collaboration with video director of the recording – understanding the director's proposals and creating shots for director
• Other hardware devices – limiter, converter, computers, basic software for audi and video post-production
• Postproduction – DVD mastering, developing and implementing of the real time streaming
• Formats of audio and video recordings
• Archiving data – formats, codecs, media
• Commercial versus non-commercial using of recordings
• Visitor statistics
• Website of the on demand archive
• Symphony orchestra – the sound specifications, composition, sections, audio recording
• Large mixed choir – sound specifications, composition, sections, audio recording
• Various ways of sound recording with an emphasis on the one point recording and contact recording system
• Correct recording of the sections of the orchestra, selection and position of microphones
• Shooting of the solo instrument with orchestra – eg. violin, piano
