Barrier Free Concert

The “Concert Without Barriers” will open with an iconic hit from 1932, made famous by the comedians Voskovec and Werich in performances by Prague's Osvobozené divadlo in the 1930s. Composer Jaroslav Ježek was severely visually impaired—almost blind—and also nearly deaf. Ján Levoslav Bella was a founding figure of Slovak national music, and May will mark the 90th anniversary of his death. He wrote Nocturne for string quartet in 1930 at the age of 87. The piece also incorporates the Slovak folk songs Po nábreží, koník beží and Dobrú noc. A masterful Baroque work by Johann Sebastian Bach, featuring SF principal oboist Matúš Veľas as soloist, will be followed at the conclusion by the popular Serenade in C Major for String Orchestra by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
