Varga Quartett Wien

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's String Quartet No.15 in D minor, KV 421 belongs to the series of quartets dedicated to Joseph Haydn. Mozart completed it in 1783, supposedly during the birth of his wife Constanze, which, according to some musicologists, found expression in its dramatic and melancholic character. Although the work is dominated by the deep emotionality typical of the overture to the operas Don Giovanni and Rekviem (both in the key of D minor), the final variations are reminiscent of a Sicilian dance. **Jaroslav Konečný belongs to the young generation of Slovak composers. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Music of the Academy of Performing Arts, where he studied composition. He is currently an accompanist with the Slovak National Theatre Ballet and performs in the orchestra. He wrote his third and last string quartet Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1876 and dedicated it to the memory of the Czech violinist Ferdinand Laub. The work is dominated by a mournful mood, which finds its deepest expression in the third movement Andante funebre e doloroso.
