Hommâge à Pantaleon Hebenstreit

The inventor of the pantalon, the instrumental forerunner of the piano, was a respected citizen. Pantaleon Hebenstreit played the violin, taught keyboards and even dance. In 1706 Hebenstreit entered the service of Johann Wilhelm III. as dancing master to his children. At the court of Johann Wilhelm III he met the head of the music division, Georg Philipp Telemann, who admired Hebenstreit's improvisational skills and musicianship. The concert will feature original works for cimbalom and harpsichord, as well as transcriptions of Georg Philipp Handel's Sarabanda and Passacaglia, and Telemann's Sonata in G major. Archaic compositions from the The Tablature Miscellany and the anonymous Folias de Espana will also come to life. For years, Enikő Ginzery, a cimbalom player and specialist on historical versions of the instrument, has been restoring the lost prestige of the cimbalom as a classical music instrument. Joining her will be harpsichord specialist Agnesa Ferienčíková, who regularly collaborates with ensembles focusing on historically informed performance.
