Bratislava Guitar Quartet
Cuban composer Leo Brouwer is one of the modern symbols of guitar music. Although he avidly studied the works of the European avant-garde in the 1960s and 1970s, the native Havanan has never forgotten that ethnic music and the guitar are symptomatic instruments for the people of Latin America. The Slovak author Vladimir Godár belongs to the category of musical mystics. He seeks (and successfully finds) sources of creative energy in the sphere of mythical idioms, thus opening the gates to the performer and the listener to the knowledge of deeper spiritual energies. Music of the distant past or the folklore of the Zagorá region thus find contact surfaces and act in perfect harmony. On the one hand, the Spaniard Manuel de Falla dealt with Iberian ethnic material, on the other hand, during his studies in Paris, he struggled to cope with the impulses from Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. The works presented in this concert tend more towards the first of the spheres of inspiration indicated.
The Bratislava Guitar Quartet is one of the renowned ensembles of its kind. It has collaborated with guitar music personalities such as Leo Brouwer and Costas Cotsiolis. Mezzo-soprano Petra Noskaiová regularly performs with early music ensembles (Prague Madrigalists, Musica aeterna) and co-performs in historical performances of Baroque operas. Violist Peter Vrbinčík is the manager and a member of the ensemble Solamente Naturali.
