Torelli / Vivaldi / Corelli / Godár

Giuseppe Torelli was both an author and an experienced violinist who preferred virtuosity and technical bravura in his compositions. However, he too tried his hand at the more “orchestral” genre of concerto grosso. Antonio Vivaldi was also a compositional virtuoso, as evidenced by his dozens of concertos for various instruments. The Sarabande, Gigue and Badineria were originally part of Corelli's violin sonatas; but they became famous primarily in the form given to them by Pinelli in his arrangement for string orchestra. The range of expressive postures extends from serious sarabande to playful badineria. The tradition of the concerto grosso has begun to re-emerge from oblivion thanks to 20th century composers seeking a serum against the spiritual crisis of the new times. One of them is the sensitive Vladimir Godár.
