Gimenéz / Rodrigo / Rajter / Ravel

The programme of the May concert of the Popular Cycle under the baton of conductor Leoš Svárovský offers a line-up of lively compositions of Ibero-American provenance, complemented by ballet music by a local composer and the famous Ravel's Bolero. The concert opens with a virtuoso orchestral intermezzo by Gerónimo Giménez from his zarzuela (the Spanish equivalent of the operetta genre) The Wedding of Luis Alonso, characterized by its fiery atmosphere and lively rhythms. The Concierto Andaluz for four guitars and orchestra by Joaquín Rodrigo was written in 1967 for the famous quartet Los Romeros. This concert marks the 30th anniversary of the Bratislava Guitar Quartet. The ballet Presparos Majáles from 1938 is one of the most successful works of the Slovak conductor and composer Ludovít Rajter. The programme will be rounded off by the notorious and frequently performed in the Reduta Bolero Maurice Ravel.
