Tribute to Bohdan Warchal

Ladislav Kupkovič belonged to a strong group of composers who left Czechoslovakia as a result of the tragic events of 1968. He settled in Germany. Nevertheless, he retained his respect for Slovak musical sources, using folk melodies in Cantica Slovaca, which he dedicated to the SKO. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Violin Concerto is one of the most popular concert works of the 19th century. Its Apollonian spirit, filigree brilliance, and positive energy guarantee it a permanent place on concert stages. Towards the end of his short life, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart dealt with darker inspirations, but his last symphony is the exact opposite, and it is not without reason that it bears the subtitle “Jupiter.”
